I absolutely adore all things Denyse Schmidt and I LOVE the look of string quilts. So I was so happy to see she had included one in her book Denyse Schmidt Quilts: 30 Colorful Quilt and Patchwork Projects.

I didn't use her pattern exactly. In fact, I didn't use the paper patterns at all. Instead, I cut 10in x 16in blocks from 5 or 6 fabrics each and then randomly sliced them to my own liking. I then did a 'lil switch-a-roo to mix them up. I repeated the process several times until I had 72 blocks. They were crazy wonky so I squared them up to 8inx8in. The finished top is a good 64inX64in. I made waayyyyy too many blocks....So, I intend to use the leftovers to make a baby quilt.

Then I went finishing with my dad and caught 2 bass!! Whew! What a day!!!
I've always loved that DS quilt and yours is no exception. It looks fantastic. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE the colors. This quilt is so pretty. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteThis is just STUNNING! I found you on Flickr in the Fresh Modern Quilts group!
ReplyDeleteIyiyiyi! I too came over from Flickr. I just love this, and I don't love wonky. At first it reminded me of a spiderweb quilt. It's great that you were able to use large fabric pieces to really show off the prints. The solids really make it though!
ReplyDeletethat is really beautiful and modern, love it! great job. :)

This quilt is super rad. I've been wanting to try a wonky string quilt for quilt awhile, and I think seeing this might just bump it up on my priority list. :)
ReplyDeleteI really love the colors you chose! Beautiful pictures of the quilt! You did a great job all around!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful quilt. Gorgeous colors and use of fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely gorgeous and so inspiring! I love the wonkiness and all the vibrant colors. How did you quilt it, though? Stitch in the ditch? I can't tell from the photos.
